Top 100 UK Parent Blogs and Bloggers – October 2009

Welcome to the Tots100 Index of the UK's Top Parent Bloggers

Bloglogo Welcome to the October Tots100 index of the UK's top 100 parent blogs and bloggers! The British Mummy (and Daddy) blogging scene is getting exciting – we've got a brand new number one blog this month and no fewer than 17 new entries to the index – so lots of new reading for everyone!

I spent quite a lot of time putting together the blog index this month – with so many new entries, there was quite a bit of work. To avoid that happening next month, here's my stern moment: while I love people suggesting new blogs for us to include, please don't nominate your blog each month - if you've nominated it once, I promise it's in there. If you nominate it again, it ends up being scored twice, and it messes up my calculations. This tends to make me cranky.

A second issue that came up this month: we now have a couple of bloggers who write more than one blog. What we've found is that these blogs are sometimes linking to each other repeatedly – and since the index scores partly based on links, it's elevating the scores of both blogs. From next month, I am going to impose a limit – so that if Blog A and Blog B are written by the same person, you can only score for ONE link between those two blogs each month. I think this will make the index fairer for those bloggers who only write one blog. But feedback, as ever, is welcome.

Apart from that, usual rules apply. Read the FAQ for details of how these figures are created, and contact me here or via Twitter if you want to know more.

Of course, don't forget to get your blog badges by clicking on the link here.

If you’re not listed this month and you haven’t yet submitted your blog to Who’s the Mummy, please leave a comment on this post, and I’ll add you to the mix next time.

Right, let’s go!

  1. Thanks and, as ever, I don’t know how you find the time to do this (or have a clue how it all works) but thanks for doing it anyway!

  2. Made it! Hooray! As ever amazed at how many fantastic blogs there are out there and by all your hard work Sally. x

  3. Tasha says:

Thanks for all your hard work, as always, Sally. Congratulations to Susanna on reaching Number One! There seem to be two entries for The Potty Diaries.

  4. Linda says:

Hi Sally, thank you for including Got Your Hands Full and Have a Lovely Time.
I promise I won’t ask you to include either ever again.
On your point about one blog linking to another – I think it is very fair. I am sure that this has affected both these scores.
As you can imagine, I am very pleased to see YGYHF move up into the top 20. I don’t think in its previous ‘form’ it would ever have done very well in this list as it was a pretty static “information source” – the conversations sparked by recent posts there have been exhilarating at times though I am aware this may be too strong a word and one that may sound a bit ridiculous.
Thank you again and all the very best to you and Flea.

  5. Hurray! I’m on there!
Lovely news to wake up to. Big congratulations to Susanna for making the number 1 spot! And thanks to Sally for staying up VERY late last night to do this (you must have done, right?!)
Insomniac Mummy did especially well too didn’t she? Straight in at number 59 and Hot Cross Mum up 52 places!!! Both extremely well deserved – two of my favourite blogs.
    xx

  6. TheMadHouse says:

Hi Sally thanks for doing this as always, I am only a fledgling in blog years, but I would appreicate if you could give me my stats. Thank you and well done all that made it

  7. notSupermum says:

Many thanks once again for all your hard work Sally, perhaps you can get some sleep now!
Btw, I took a photo of Flea at Sunday and would like to include it with the others when I update my blog today. Would that be OK, only I didn’t get the chance to ask you at the time – seconds later I saw you and Flea chasing each other down the museum!

  8. I assume you are now asleep! Amazing work on your behalf – it’s really appreciated. Thrilled with my leap – I’m chuffed. Maybe some more shoes are in order?! Great to see some of my favourites on there as new entries too.

  9. Well done Sally. Such a lot of work and also such an important resource for other parents bloggers. Brilliant.

  10. Oh my goodness! I’m astounded that I made it so far up the table!
Thanks for all the hard work Sally and congratulations to Susanna for hitting the top spot.
Well done everyone. Off to have a read of a few more now. :)

  11. Yummy Mammy says:

Nice one, in at number 30! I’m quite proud :-)

  12. Sally says:

Thanks everyone, please feel free to point out errors where they’ve crept in. As you may know, the HTML table is done manually and quite late at night, so….
@notsupermum – could you email it to me first? And, yes, we were racing. I lost, obviously ;-)

  13. Thank you very much for including me! Really happy to chart for the first time! Check out Baby Baby and Hot Cross Mum leaping up the charts. And congrats to fellow new entrants Insomniac Mummy and Sleep is for the Weak. Congratulations also to A Modern Mother on the top spot – these are all blogs I read regularly. Well done again on compiling it all.

  14. Potty Mummy says:

Thanks as ever Sally – hope you’ve managed to catch up your sleep… PM X

  15. I can only imagine how much work it must be to pull that together. Thanks for doing it!!
PS: Quite chuffed that I made it. And how funny that Most/Least is #100.

  16. Thanks so much for doing this Sally, it’s a great resource. Pleased to see ParentDish moving up a chunk – I can smell that top 50 now.

  17. Noble Savage says:

Thanks for all your hard work, Sally, as usual. This is such a great resource. Off to read some new blogs!

  18. Victoria says:

I’ve no idea how you do it, but thanks very much. I’m very pleased to have moved up from 99, considering I’m kind of a travel blog, with children attached!

  19. notSupermum says:

Sally, I can’t find an email address for you, but guess what? The lovely photo I took of Flea in her ace t-shirt, and a couple more of various bloggers have disappeared from my camera. Not sure what’s happened, but I do remember trying to delete some old pics when the memory was full…..sorry ’bout that.

  20. Wow, an amazing top 100. Glad to see Living with kids in there – I save money as well as read with that blog. I don’t know how I will ever make the top 100 but at least I’ve got a new ambition. Fantastic work Sally, I’ll keep thinking maybe one day…

  21. Michelle says:

Hi Sally, do I need to add mine again so it can be considered for the next?
    http://www.babysigningstore.co.uk/blog
I wasn’t sure how it works.
    Thanks,
    Michelle

  22. Janmary says:

Yeah – I made it! Thanks so much :)

  23. Hurray!! Well done Susanna :)
Thanks for all your hard work Sally x

  24. Kat says:

Submitting mine for consideration (although I don’t know if I qualify since I am an American living in the UK). Nice work on the ranking though!
    http://3bedroombungalow.blogspot.com

  25. Thanks Sally! Lovely to be included and glad to see I’ve not dropped off the list!

  26. Leanne says:

    Glad to see Jan Mary on there:) I’d like to submit mine for consideration;
    http://seethewoodsandthetrees.blogspot.com
    Thanks.

  27. Thanks so much for including me Sally and all your hard work (afraid my link doesn’t work though – or maybe I’m doing something wrong…)
Off to have a nice read of some new blogs! Fantastic!

  28. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I’m very, very honoured to be included in your list. It’s a lot of hard work for you and you’ve made 100 bloggers extremely happy, including me. THANK YOU.
    CJ xx

  29. Hey Sally, hoping to be included next month fingers crossed-how far was I off this month?
    http://www.20somethingmum.blogspot.com

  30. elizabethm says:

Submitting mine at http://www.welshhillsagain.blogspot.com as I see my friend at Single and Surviving on the list so it looks like small children are not a must. My kids are adult now but I have one grandchild and another on the way and also blog about haivng downsized from a frantic London life to rural bliss. Hope you can include me!
it is great to see so many of my favourites on your list and what a task to compile. thanks so much for all your time and effort.

  31. grit says:

wow. thank you for all your hard work. i’m not sure how it’s done, but it’s fun to use the list as a start point to explore different blogs that are new to me. thanks again.

  32. Pippa says:

Just wanted to add my thanks (again) for you putting the work in to do this and to say how surprised I was when Hot Cross Mum stopped by to tell me I was on the list!
I think there is a space at the end of my URL, as it doesn’t click through. :)
    Pippa

  33. Susie Mesure says:

my question is where is the link to the FAQ?!
i guess i could submit mine while i’m at it, although i doubt it fulfils the criteria….
    http://babieswhobrunch.blogspot.com

  34. Sally says:

See the link on the right under “About the Index” that says “FAQ: the index”? That’s it. Just above the red and white Great Toy Guide badge!

  35. simone says:

Didn’t make it, but I’m not surprised.
As I’m spending more and more time figuring out SEO (with poor results), I keep wondering why quality should come after number crunching.
    http://fromrattopositiveparent.blogspot.com/

  36. Sally says:

Simone – I’ve checked and you haven’t commented on the blog before so your blog wasn’t indexed.
If you want a blog to be included in the index you must leave a comment with your blog name and URL on the most recent index (like this one). If you do this, we will include your blog in the next index.
    Thanks
    Sally

  37. Solveig says:

Just seen my blog is there! I’m right near the bottom but I’m still very pleased! Hurray!

  38. Hi Sally, can you include me next time? I can’t remember if I aske din Sept or not. I know I won’t make the list but would like to try.

  39. Ollie says:

    Great Work Sally.

  40. Hi wonder where the FAQ are hiding so I can see whether I can enter mine or not?
    Thanks
    BNM

  41. Sally says:

BNM – look at the right hand column – just above the red & white Great Toy Guide link is an “About the Index” section – click on the FAQ: the index link and all will be explained!
    Sally

  42. New Mummy says:

Thank you for all the hard work you put into this! Woop made the top into the 30′s

  43. I’ve a horrible feeling I might have emailed before… or maybe I’m dreaming it! But I blog at http://hairyfarmerfamily.wordpress.com/ and would love a go at inclusion! Fabulous resource, well done you!

  44. Anna Guest says:

    http://little-bit-of-everything-reviews.blogspot.com/
Please add me .. if I am good enough :)

  45. I LOVE reading Getting Ink and clicked through to ‘Who’s the Mummy’ today to find something just as interesting! Anyway, I thought I’d pop my blog in to see if it gets mentioned next month – it talks about me and my business and shows photogrpahs, gives natural skincare recipe blends and make-up tips!

  46. Thanks again for putting together this list – it’s a great place for me to find new blogs to read.
Also, I have realised looking at your FAQs that I should probably submit my own blog under its Typepad address as well as this is how it appears on some indexes – http://www.littlegreenfingers.typepad.com. Still don’t imagine I’ll be in the top 1000 never mind top 100…

  47. Oooo Just missed out! Wonder if I’ll make it next time!! Hehe.. :)

  48. I’ve just written my very first blog so not sure if I qualify.
    This is it anyway! xx

  50. Zoe says:

    Hello,
I’ve previously submitted my blog but I have just moved it to a new address and so could you please take this in to account when doing the maths! Many thanks.
    My new address:
    http://www.playingbythebook.net/
    My old address:
    http://www.kuvik.net/ztoft/playingbythebook/
Thanks for all your hard work on this.
    Zoe

  52. Papa et Piaf says:

    Sally
Still not quite clear on how this works – did I miss out this month because i’m still not getting enough traffic or because I haven’t (quite) been at it three full months?
Not a complaint, btw, just a genuine question – eyes on the prize and all that …

  53. Aingeal says:

Hi not sure if I’m doing this right, but submitting my blog for consideration next month
    http://mumssurvivalguide.blogspot.com
