The lovely Liz at Living with Kids has been writing about romance all week, for some reason or other, and asked me on Twitter to post a comment about the most romantic place I know. I didn’t post a comment. I thought about it, I really did. But after a lot of thought, I decided that there’s such a thing as a ‘romantic place’.I remember sitting on Herring Cove beach in Cape Cod, watching the sun set. It’s apparently supposed to be one of the most beautiful places in the world to watch … [Read more...]
Confession. I’m leading my child astray.
Last week, Flea was ill. The school rang and asked me to collect her because she wasn’t her usual cheery self. They were right – she turned into a full-on Linda Blair as soon as we got into the school car park. She came home, collapsed on the sofa, and stayed there all day, sipping water. The following day, Flea seemed better but she was hot, and tired, so I called the school and kept her home. we spent the morning making a huge stash of meatballs for the freezer, then in the afternoon we … [Read more...]

(Almost) Wordless Wednesday: planning ahead.

Each face is someone she's going to invite. What are the X's? Well, I'm glad you asked. Those are the children she's already decided to uninvite. I think the power might have gone to her head. … [Read more...]
The Flea Files, Part II
When we first launched Who’s the Mummy last year, I interviewed Flea about all the things I thought our blog readers might want to know about us. But Flea was three then. Now she’s four and in BIG SCHOOL. She’s a whole different person. So we re-did the interview (inspired by the lovely Rosie Scribble) and here it is, accompanied by a brand new illustration of Me and Flea. Just FYI, my hair still doesn't look like that. Well, not often.Who’s in charge of the world? Is it God from … [Read more...]
The Best Fifty Quid I Ever Spent
When Flea was about six weeks old, I spent an evening in a draughty church hall in Brighton, with 11 other new parents and a registered nurse. Over a period of three hours, we were taught the basics of paediatric emergency first aid – what to do if your baby stops breathing, what if they choke, what if they fall down the stairs, get scalded. The course was run by a company called Safety Angels, and each of us paid £50 to attend the workshop. Expensive, but given the number of times … [Read more...]
