So Fast.

It’s only taken three years, because I am a technical guru *cough* but this week I finally managed to find a bit of software that meant my Sony HDD camcorder could talk to a Mac computer. The MPG files on my camcorder are only made for PCs, you see. (for anyone with the same problem, what you need is the extremely nifty Wondershare).

This meant for the first time in ages, I was able to see video footage taken of Flea back in the early days – her first birthday, first Christmas, first trip overseas. There are bath-times and trips to the park, and family gatherings. And I managed to move across my old photo archive, too. Looking through shows me how much fun we’ve had. The places we’ve been and the laughs we shared.

I’m just not sure I remember any of it.

I’m not sure if it makes me a terrible person but honestly? I looked at the footage of Flea as a baby and toddler and thought to myself, “I just can’t remember her being that small.”

Obviously I know it happened. And thanks to this blog, lots of those memories are preserved, for both of us. But I think I was so caught up in the day to day of it, for a long time, that I didn’t really absorb any of it. Certainly not at the time.

Maybe it happens to all parents – certainly people on Twitter said they had similar experiences. But it brought home to me, really, how FAST it all goes.

Two minutes ago I was pregnant. And now she’s almost seven. How does that happen?

I put together a slideshow to remind myself just how fast it goes. Because I think I need to remember – every day – to pay attention, before the moment’s gone.
