We love to travel at Christmas.
Last year we took a short break to London and this year we’re ridiculously excited about a forthcoming short break in Chicago. I know, I know. It’ll be freezing and isn’t it a long way to go for a short break? But there are big Christmas trees and snow and skating and… well, why not, basically.
Leaving home is always a bit worrying, though, especially when you’re sharing your travels with the world on social media. Although we have house and dog sitters on standby, lots of families don’t at this time of year. So I’m really pleased to be teaming up with home security experts Canary to try out their fab home security safeguard.
Canary is a complete security solution for your home that looks stylish and unobtrusive, AND works via your mobile phone. No wiring, no complex set-up, just a smartphone app, and a security device.
The Canary captures high-quality HD video clips and activity updates, and sends them direct to your smartphone, allowing you to check in even while you’re shivering on a snow slope (or listening to Uncle Brian’s Theory of Why You’re Not Married Yet for the 100th time). It will detect motion and changes in temperature and other environmental conditions.
Canary also has a 90dB siren, and an option to contact police and fire authorities direct from your phone, if there’s an emergency. Cleverly, the device learns your normal routine, so the odds of our dog setting the alarm off when she’s terrorising passing vehicles on our street are minimised.
What we love about the device is its unobtrusive, wireless design – just plug it in and pop it on a shelf. Perfect! On sale now at Apple Stores, Amazon UK, as well as Curry’s PC World, John Lewis, and Maplin stores across England, Scotland, and Wales, and store-uk.canary.is, the Canary is definitely worth a look if you’re travelling this Christmas!
