Months of planning, years of budgeting, agonising about which school, trying to find that one, secret shop in the WHOLE world that sells knee-length grey school socks… yes, Flea has started big school.
When I picked her up this afternoon, I was keen to basically have my child validate my decisions by telling me what an amazing time she'd had.
"How did it go, did you have fun?" I asked.
A long pause. "Yes."
"Did you learn anything good? Do you feel smarter?"
Another long pause. "Yes."
"What was the best thing?"
She thinks for a moment. Then her whole face lights up and she shouts: "At lunch there was cake for pudding!"
It's not exactly what I was looking for, but at least she's had a good day – and to be fair, a day with cake is better than one without.
ps: I already know there was cake. Do you know how I know this? Because there is icing on the wretched bloody blazer.
“What’s that Tinkerbell? You think you’ll feel better if all the children can clap to show they believe in faries? Tough luck sweetie – do you know how much that blazer cost?!”
Sounds like Flea knows what’s important in life already! The overpriced uniform looks good too (pre-cake).
I’ve been trying to coax information out of Renée today about her school…any information will do. But it’s such a laborious process it drives me crazy. I give you all my empathy. As for the Blazer, I’m afraid I can’t empathise with you on that – all we have is a horrible viscose sweatshirt (not even a jumper). Imagine that? I just know you made the right choice!
@Dawn – I just scared the chap with how loudly that made me laugh. Brilliant.
@Whistlejacket – she’s definitely my daughter, knows the value of a good cake.
@Maternal Tales – It’s impossible, isn’t it? And all I got from her teacher was: “Is it really true that Flea has a frog living under her bed?” Er, no.
2 years on and I still get limited information. Sometimes I get week old news.
What is it with the socks! Last year I made the mistake of going white, this year grey grey grey!
The blazer on the other hand could be your answer. You’ll know when she paints, what she eats and probably when she has been in the muddy part of the playground!
Oh no! Wet wipes! They get off anything sticky – we have the Pampers sensitive ones and they would get that off in a second.
Glad the first day went well. As did ours.
That’s an impressive blazer, the shiny buttons look great. It must be a huge relief to hear her first day has been such a success.
Mine doesn’t start till Monday, and I’ve only just finished sewing in the name tags. And it’s big school! And one of us is hyperventilating! And not in a good way!
Have just sent my youngest off to school. Feeling little bit emotional – http://www.workingmums.co.uk/mums/blogs/595546/countdown.thtml
